The Fellowship comes to Town!

In partnership with the Jewish National Fund (JNF), the Faculty Fellowship Program is a competitive academic fellowship that allows full-time university and college faculty members from the USA an opportunity to participate in an all-expenses-paid academic trip to Israel.
The Program seeks to link scholars from diverse disciplines with their counterparts at major institutions in Israel, including Tel-Hai, for the purpose of initiating exchanges and collaborations, and facilitating the opportunity to discuss shared research, values and teaching concepts.

Thank you JNF!

Tel-Hai welcomed Professors Joachim Thonnessen and Reinhard Lange, together with their students from our partner institute, Hochschule Osnabruck, University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

Tel-Hai welcomed Professors Joachim Thonnessen and Reinhard Lange, together with their students from our partner institute, Hochschule Osnabruck, University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

The group journeyed up to the Galilee especially to join Dr. Moshe Farchi from Tel-Hai’s Stress, Trauma & Resilience Studies Centre, for an intensive 2 – day workshop on his ‘Six C’s’ Model for psychological first aid.   Acute stress reactions immediately after exposure to trauma or crisis have received growing attention in recent years and are gaining momentum in light of recent mass traumatic events worldwide including conflicts, terrorist attacks and natural disasters.  Dr. Farchi’s model is designed to be implemented on all community levels, including first responder and both professionals and non-professionals.  The model helps shift the person from a helpless, passive and functional incompetent state to active effective coping, within minutes, in the immediate aftermath of a perceived traumatic event.

Later on in the afternoon, the visitors were joined by Tel-Hai’s Mr. Einav Levy.  Founder of The Israeli School of Humanitarian Action, Mr. Levy gave a lively and eye-opening presentation on international perceptions of humanitarian aid.

The workshop culminated in a real-life situational drill in which the student’s newly learnt skills were put to the test.  Dr. Farchi’s current BA Social Work students were alongside to give a helping hand   A fantastic time was had by all and we look forward to a continuing collaboration!

Professor Ayelet Shavit’s ‘Pluralism and Story Writing as a tool for Growth’ kicked off this season’s Involved Philosophy program here in Tel-Hai College this December.   We were also honoured to welcome Professor Helen Longino and Professor Valerie Miner from our partner, Stanford University, USA, who both led a number of fascinating workshops and seminars for local residents from Ghajar Village in the Galilee. The workshops focused on studying the concept of pluralism in the local context of Ghajar, through the use of creative writing as a tool for developing resilience and growth  – in personal and communal aspects – from crisis.

Egg-sighting News

November marked the launch of our brand new intensive six-day international workshop ‘Avian Parasitology on a Migratory Course’. Lead by Tel-Hai’s Dr. Yoni Vortman, and international academics Dr. Amanda Hund, University of Minnesota, USA, Dr. Alfonso Rojas Mora, University of Neuchatel, Switzerland, and special guest lecturer Dr. Arne Hegemann from the Department of Biology, Lund University, Sweden, this unique and intensive specialized field course brought together multiple topics in an integrative and comparative framework, including parasitology, migratory ecology, and immunology. It took place in the beautiful Hula Lake Nature Reserve, an internationally acclaimed location for bird-watching, and an important migratory stopover point for millions of migratory birds from the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

In August, Tel-Hai’s Professor Giora Rytwo, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences warmly welcomed Dr. Serpil Guran, the Director of the Rutgers University EcoComplex, “Clean Energy Innovation Center” in New Jersey, to Tel-Hai College to further strengthen their collaboration and we look forward to a joint workshop in ‘clean-tech’ innovation next Autumn
